Awards Announcement

Hi all before I make the award announcement in just a bit I wanted to thank several people before things got wild and crazy.

First off--I got the idea to do something a bit different for the winners this year. I approached reallycorking and kath_ballantyne to do some original artwork for the winner banners. They graciously agreed and the artwork is just beautiful. I so appreciate their hard work getting these done and I can not thank them enough. The awards are even more special this year because of them. Be sure to leave them a note letting them know how beautiful the artwork is!

Second-Thank you to simons_flower and oncelikeshari for checking journals and validating votes. Their help was invaluable and it made my job so much easier in validating everything.

And finally last but not least rickey_a who made all the winner banners. She devoted loads of time to this project and a great deal of creativity. She put up with my inability to be online and available as much as I would have liked to have been. Be sure to comment and let her know what a great job she did.

As I said I will be announcing the winners probably sometime between 830 and 9 pm EST. I will be sending out letters to the authors and artists. Those of you who do win an award if you could please hold off posting your banners until the actual winner announcement goes up I would appreciate it!

Update on Awards

First I want to apologize. I know quite a few people are sitting on the edge of their seats waiting on the announcements. I moved quite suddenly over the weekend--only a week after I signed my lease. I have been swamped under with trying to get my kids and I unpacked so everything is liveable.

I will be sending out the results to my volunteers tonight to verify journals and votes. I will also be doing that myself tonight and tomorrow. Please be patient and give me a bit more time to get everything done.

I will announce the awards Friday evening and hopefully you'll be able to hold on until then. If you emailed me about the status of the awards and I haven't responded yet it is because I didn't have computer access to anything until late yesterday. I will try to answer those emails over the course of this evening and tomorrow.

Thanks for your patience and understanding during this extremely stressful time for me.

Voting closed right on time on the 24th! However,I am moving over the weekend to a new apartment and I will not have internet access until Monday evening at home.

Hi,
All the author letters have gone out and I've gotten quite a few responses back. The artist letters should go out tomorrow as long as we have power. I'm currently in the midst of an ice storm and we're expecting 1-2 inches of ice on top of the 6 inches of snow then 4-6 more inches of snow.

So please be patient in case of power outages in my area.

In addition if a story is nominated in more than one category, we will let the author chose which category they want the story in.

bestmatesawards Conclude on January 24th with nominations. At this point we don't have enough nominations to really have a good awards so I will be thinking how this is going to be done.

Please if you're wanting to continue the Awards let me know or if you'd like to discontinue them this year let me know also. It's alot of work for myself and for the volunteers who validate everything.

The 2008 Best Mates and More Awards

Welcome to the home for the 2008 Ron and Harry Best Mates and More Awards. We welcome you to join in to nominate and vote on your favorite Ron and Harry stories for 2008. It's time that Harry and Ron writers and artists were recognized as being some of the best, funniest, and craziest folks out there!

General Information

*Nominations will open on January 3, 2009 and Conclude on January 24th 2009 at 11:59 PM EST.

*Voting will commence on February 1st 2009 and Run through February 20th 2009.

*Winners will be announced on March 1, 2009

The Rules

First and Foremost there have to be a few rules to keep chaos to a minimum.

General Rules:
1. Flaming, Disrespect, general nastiness, and wank will not be tolerated.
a. Flaming towards authors and artists will result in being banned from the awards
b. Nastiness and a massive wank storm will immediately close the awards. We are taking a strong stance on this to preserve the joy of Harry and Ron.

2. The mod has the discretion to delete any posts that are derogatory toward the ship or anyone involved in the awards.

3. Authors and Artists have the right to refuse Nominations.

4. Nominations will open on January 3, 2009 and conclude on January 24th 2009 at 11:59 PM EST.

5. Voting will commence on February 1st 2009 and run through February 20th 2009 at 11:59 PM EST.

6. Awards will be announced on March 1, 2009.

7. You must have a Livejournal account that has been set up for the minimum of three months in order to nominate or vote in polls.

Polls:

1. This years nominations and polls will be text boxes. This will help to ensure blind voting.

2. All votes will be tallied by an outside source that is not part of the Harry/Ron community and confirmed by the maintainer.

3. Nominations must be fully filled in or they will not be counted.

Nominations

1. You must have a Live journal with entries in order to nominate. These will be checked by volunteers and the maintainer. If there are no entries in your journal or does not meet the three month requirement in the general rules, your nomination will be null.

3. You must include author/artist contact information. The author/artist must accept the nomination before they are included in the polls.

4. Stories do not have to be posted on Livejournal. You may nominate from outside sources as long as you have a confirmable Live Journal.

5. Nomination text boxes must be fully filled out with all information in order to be counted.

Voting:

1. This will be a blind vote visible only to the Maintainer and Volunteers.

2. Once voting commences you may only vote once in each category. If we find you are spamming the award nominations, then all your votes will be ignored.

3. You must comment on the poll entry for IP confirmation for your vote to be counted. This will reduce the number of sock puppet votes. All these comments will be screened and deleted upon the end of the awards.

4. All votees journals will be checked that they meet the specified criteria.

5. You do not have to vote in all categories but you must comment to the post.

Changes for 2008

1. Volunteers and the maintainer can be nominated. They can also refuse nominations.

2. Drabbles will now be included.

3. Stories can not be nominated in multiple categories. They may only be nominated in one category.

2008 Harry/Ron Awards

I was hesitant to do this again this year but have ~~had my arm twisted~~ been persuaded to go ahead.

I will need volunteers for the following items:

1. Banner design and creation for both art and stories

2. Vote verification.

3. Helping to answer questions when the mod is unavailable.

In addition I wanted to let you know of a few changes that will be taking place in the awards.

It was pointed out to me today I missed three stories in the nominations.

1. Warm By Brumeux 77--it is now up in the category drabbles

2. Frog Launching by Maple_Mahogany which is now up in the category Through Harry's Eyes.

3. Weasley's Wizarding Weekend by Reni Days is now up in Snogged.

Please keep in mind that there were over a 100 nominations--Some fics were nominated in mulitple categories and I may have missed something.
